Equipment for Start-ups

Michigan Innovation Equipment Depot (MIED)

Pfizer Global Research and Development, Ann Arbor SPARK, MichBio, Southwest Michigan First and Michigan’s Smart Zones have formed a consortium to establish the Michigan Innovation Equipment Depot. The mission is to provide life science start-up companies throughout Michigan with equipment resources to continue their growth. MIED equipment disbursements are intended for start-up companies and wet lab incubators.

The purpose of MIED is to accelerate company commercialization by providing access to previously used laboratory equipment useful & valuable to a start-up company’s product research, development and manufacturing.

Each SmartZone is responsible for due diligence of the companies which they certify as meeting the criteria outlined for MIED. Ann Arbor SPARK will be the administrator, receiving donated equipment/instruments, providing warehouse facilities, and distributing items to the companies.

Company Eligibility requirements:

  • Register for the program by filling out the online registration form and including the above certificates.
  • Once the registration application is received and accepted, applicants will be sent a list of available equipment and the official equipment request form. Use this form to select the equipment you want and return it to SPARK.
  • Within 30 days of receiving your completed equipment request, SPARK will send you a license agreement and invoice for license fee the equipment you will receive.
  • Once SPARK receives the signed license agreement and license fee, the company will be asked to make an appointment to pick up or arrange delivery of the equipment.
Once registered, the maximum fair market dollar value that any one company may receive is $150,000 of equipment per year. A company may apply for up to twenty units of equipment / instruments or systems each month. A new application for more equipment may be made each month (30 days minimum following last application).
